Motor Oil Myth: Changing Oil Every 3,000 Miles

Changing your vehicle's motor oil is necessary maintenance task to ensure it lasts as long as it can. However, as automotive technology has changed over the years, many motor oil myths are repeated that are no longer true.

It was once a rule of thumb that every vehicle should have its motor oil and oil filter changed every 3,000 miles. Traditional motor oil would break down chemically in the engine in that about that amount of time. When synthetic oils became common on the market, however, this rule of thumb fell by the wayside. Many cars now have longer recommended intervals between oil changes or have built-in sensors that let you know when it's time for one.

Our certified automotive technicians here at Tuttle-Click Ford can answer any questions you may have about changing your vehicle's motor oil. Bring it to our service center in Irvine, CA or call in to schedule an oil change today.
